The Central Highlands of Vietnam offer some incredible untouched terrain where we explore jungles, mountains and remote hill tribe villages. We have taken the ‘transfer’ out of the journey between Hue and Hoi An, thrown in some awesome adventures, including dramatic mountain climbs and a stay in the remote Bho Hoong ethnic minority village. This turns a five hour commute in to two of the most memorable days of your Vietnam experience.
Whether you choose a Jeep or AC 4wd , your guide’s passion for this journey and knowledge of the area ensure you are on a voyage of discovery, adventure and will take home never to be forgotten memories.
After you have cruised along the Ho Chi Minh Trail and splashed around in a hidden waterfall, we think you’ll agree this is one adventure that will stay with you for a lifetime!
DAY 1: COUNTRY RIDING
Hoi An to Bho Hoong (110 km)
Delve into the heart of central Vietnam with this 2-day adventure. We set off from Hoi An on what promises to be an unforgettable voyage of rugged roads, rustic villages and stunning highlands. Pack your sense of adventure and leave behind those preconceived notions of touristy villages: this journey is the real deal. With the wind in your hair, we zip through the Hoi An countryside to Marble Mountain where the thrill-lovers among us can opt for an abseiling adventure into Hell’s Cave. We then head west and climb our way into the mountains.
As we wind our way up into the hills towards the Lao border home to the Co Tu minority, we take a break to visit one of the few remaining Co Tu woodcarvers and enjoy a home cooked lunch in his stilted house before continuing our journey deep in to the mountains, meandering through isolated villages where the culture and traditions remain untouched by time making this remote and staggeringly beautiful region home to one of the most authentic hill tribes to remain in Vietnam.
Arriving mid afternoon at Bho Hoong, a traditional Co Tu village, we find our digs for the night. Little has changed in the past hundred years in Bho Hoong and it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Central Vietnam. A light trek through the village outskirts takes us into the surrounding jungle and to rivers, where we can go for a refreshing dip. The evening is highlighted by a superb dinner of Co Tu traditional dishes, a traditional dancing performance and a chance to interact with the villagers, gaining more insight into their rich culture. Afterwards, retreat to your stilted Co Tu hut where the serene setting and clear mountain air will lull you to sleep.
DAY 2: HO CHI MINH TRAIL
Bho Hoong Village to Hue (195 km)
In the morning, wake up to the sounds of the village coming to life. Enjoy breakfast and a hot cup of coffee as you watch the morning activities of the Co Tu, heading to the fields and preparing the days meals. You will have time to learn how to shoot CoTu Crossbow.
After that, leaving Bho Hoong Bungalows to another Co Tu village, we enjoy the brocade weavers, a craft the Co Tu are famous for.
Return to Da Nang to have a lunch at a local restaurant .
We then begin the last stretch of today’s journey, descending down to Hue with stop at Hai Van Pass and Lang Co Beach for sight-seeing and taking photograph. We arrive Hue in the early evening.
Seriously – the highlight of our Vietnam trip! Both my husband and I agreed we learned more in 2 days on this trip than the remainder of our trip. And honestly, after the highlight of this trip, the rest of the trip had a hard time living up to it. Hoi An Motorbike Adventures definitely gets a 5+ star rating from us. The support crew was great and the people we met along the way were phenomenal. If you are the type of traveler that revels in getting off the beaten track, this is for you: small groups (we only had one other couple with us), amazing food and truly local. Would do this tour again in a heartbeat. Love, love, loved it!!!”
